Cost of traveling - Year 2

Cost of traveling - Year 2

On year 2 we definitely found out we are full fledged Flashpackers. Budget backpackers, who dat? We had a budget, and and blew it by about $25/day but as you can see below, it’s probably b/c we visited western Europe. These are the countries we visited from Oct 1, 2018 to Oct 4, 2019.

Our Grand Total from that period was $55,070.30…. let us let that sink in a moment.

Ok, moving on.

The average was about $149.65/day, compared to $123.73/day for the first year. Again, that’s for 2 adults. Here’s the comparison with year 1.

It’s really interesting to see how much more biased we were towards hotels and AirBnBs. Hostels were reduced to almost nothing mostly because we found hotel prices were better for 2 adults AND we had more privacy.

Food

Year 2

It looks like we cut down on our caffeine consumption and that’s probably because we bought a french press. We were hoping groceries would go up but surprisingly they didn’t, as a percentage; this is probably because dinners stayed consistently more expensive that all other meals, so even though we cooked more, we also spent more the few times we did go out.

Transport

Year 2

It’s no surprise that the airfare percentage went up because we flew a lot more in developing countries than the previous years. Buses also went up, mostly because we used them a lot in western Europe but this was not our preferred mode of transport. See this post here, for things we tend to avoid.

Activities

Sites basically ate away at the tours and beauty/spa sections from the year before. Even though we did more tours than the year before, they were shorter in duration, and added up to less.

Miscellaneous

Apparently we went to town buying clothes. You can check here and here what we traveled with. And we also managed to rein in our miscellaneous expenses (or better categorize them?).

That was a doozy! We hope you guys find this info useful. Feel free to post below if you have questions or want to share your own experience, we’d love to hear from you.
